Bluegum is a dense hardwood and thus the wood does not burn up fast. It produces a lovely hot bed of coals that will burn throughout any winter night.

Black Wattle is the quintessential cooking wood as it gives food a unique, smoky flavour. It is dry and burns slowly, providing heat for hours. Myrtle is a popular firewood choice because it produces less ash.

Rooikraans grows on both acid and calcareous sand and usually makes its first appearance in disturbed areas, especially along rivers, roads and on fallow lands.

Kameeldoring which is also known as Camelthorn. Advantages are it has a lovely musky aromatic fragrance, which adds extra smokiness to the food. Kameeldoring is ultra dry, so it burns slowly and evenly.
